Users that signed up to Virgin Media’s XXL Broadband internet package averaged a notable 47.7Mb last month, as reported by the supplier.
No less than 66% of the provider’s 50Mb compare broadband customers obtained this speed during the 24-hour screening period in November – giving them a median speed merely 2.3Mb off the publicised maximum.
Virgin Media also revealed the average speeds for consumers on its XL 20Mb broadband service and its X broadband packages, that offers speeds as high as 10Mb.
Nearly all its 20Mb customers experienced speeds of 18.6Mb, while people on the 10Mb package deal obtained an average of 9.6Mb, according to the provider.
“At Virgin Media we feel that being frank about broadband speeds is important,” said the provider. “That’s why we’re going to publish the typical speeds the majority of our customers actually get each and every month.”
The service provider conducted its own best broadband speed test over a 24-hour period using a “broadband measurement panel” of Virgin Media consumers from across its UK network.
